Mark Rentschler

Visible Time
Analysis of space, including linear perspective and cubism, advanced the evolution of Western art. By analogy, I investigate ways to analyze time in drawing, painting and sculpture.

To make time visible, I overlap lines of paint or cut across wet paint with pencil or wood blocks, experimenting with simple principles including younger-over-older and younger-cuts-older. (See website for explanation and examples.)

Subject matter includes the experience of living with and caring for my mother, who suffers from dementia; grieving my late father; and events in my life and the world.
