Nicholas Femia

Nanjemoy, Maryland, U.S.

Nicholas Femia currently attends the University of Maryland, College Park, where he is pursuing a BFA in Studio arts and Graphic design.

Femia’s work explores the relationship between form, function, and life. He is drawn to abstract geometric shapes and undefined spaces, where human presence is rare yet subtly implied. Through his sculptures, he seeks to capture a sense of movement within stillness, transforming rigid structures into forms that feel alive. He works intuitively with geometry where he incorporates bending, stacking, and intersecting shapes until they suggest an inner rhythm or breath. Each piece evolves as a balance between order and spontaneity, precision and emotion. By pushing material boundaries while adhering to their unique properties, he aims to blur the line between the mechanical and the organic, allowing form itself to evoke vitality. His sculptures invite viewers to sense energy kinetically or within static matter to see abstraction not as cold or distant, but as something capable of expressing motion, tension, and pulse.
