Sophia McCrocklin

Sophia McCrocklin’s work focuses on large-scale botanical fiber sculptures of leaves, seeds, and small plants prevalent in Rock Creek Park. She is currently documenting that park and served as an artist on their Forest Resilience Framework Team, studing the effects of climate change.  McCrocklin was the first Artist in Residence for Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy (2017-2019) and has been honored to receive several Art Fellowships from the DC Commission for Arts and Humanities (2023, 2022, 2020 & 2019). Mark Jenkins of the Washington Post ( June 17, 2022) ) wrote “Even magnified by 10, the plants appear delicate and mysterious.”  Her work has also been featured in the Washington Times, Washingtonian Magazine, and other publications including American Society of Landscape Architects’ “The Dirt” and House & Gardens.  McCrocklin is a graduate of Smith College, studied textiles at Penland School of Crafts, received a law degree from the University of Louisville, and practiced environmental law at the Environmental Protection Agency.
