ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Begun in 1987, the Sculpture Now series provides an annual snapshot of up-to-the-moment works of artists in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond; the series includes the Tom Rooney Award of $500. This year's Sculpture Now 2016 theme of Cartes Blanchescan be interpreted as “complete discretion for each artist.” In the last one hundred or so years, sculpture has evolved from handmaiden of architecture to an independent, multi-faceted field of astonishing variety. In seeking to explore some of this rich creative vitality, the exhibition theme was designed to give WSG members free rein in which of their recent creations they proposed to the juror, John Shipman.
